Key Features of Video to Live Photo

Choose the moment that matters

Select the start and end of your video, then preview the chosen segment before exporting. Prepare a short motion clip instead of processing the entire recording.

Adjust your video's framing

Keep the original aspect ratio or prepare a portrait crop. Reposition the image so the subject stays in view before you continue on iPhone.

Choose a cover reference

Select a frame and export it as a JPG reference alongside the MOV clip. Your iOS app may require you to choose the key photo again; the JPG is not automatically linked to the video.

A clear iPhone saving workflow

Download your prepared files, import the MOV into a compatible iOS app, and save it as a Live Photo. The exported files are preparation assets, not a Live Photo already saved in your Photos library.

Prepare your video without uploading it

Video trimming, framing and export happen on your device. Your source video is not uploaded to our server. Any app or transfer service you use afterward has its own privacy practices.

Guides & Tips

How to make a video a Live Photo

Turning a video into a Live Photo involves two separate tasks: preparing the motion clip and saving it as a Live Photo in your iPhone Photos library. This page handles video preparation; a compatible iOS app completes the final save.

  1. Select a video in the tool above.
  2. Trim it to the moment you want and adjust the framing.
  3. Export the prepared files and extract the ZIP on your iPhone.
  4. Open a compatible video-to-Live-Photo app, such as intoLive, and import the MOV clip.
  5. Choose the key photo and save as a Live Photo using the app's available options.
  6. Open Photos to check that the result appears as a Live Photo and plays correctly.

The JPG included in the download is a cover reference. Do not assume that importing it alongside the MOV will automatically create a Live Photo or preserve your chosen key photo.

What this video to Live Photo tool exports

The download contains a prepared MOV video and a JPG cover reference in a ZIP file. These files help you continue the process in an iPhone app.

The download is not a finished Live Photo asset in your Photos library. Selecting the two files in Files does not provide a verified direct-import workflow for this tool, and saving them separately does not complete the Live Photo creation step.

Import the MOV into a compatible iOS app and use that app's Live Photo export option. The app may generate its own still image or ask you to select the key photo again.

Can you convert video to Live Photo without an app?

You can trim, crop and export the video on this page without installing an app. However, this tool's supported workflow uses a compatible iOS app for the final Live Photo save.

We do not currently offer a verified workflow that turns the browser download directly into a Live Photo in your iPhone Photos library without a third-party app.

If you already have a short, correctly framed video, you may prefer to import it directly into a Live Photo app. Use this page when you want to prepare the segment and framing first, without uploading your video to our server.

Preparing a video for an iPhone Live Photo wallpaper

If your goal is a moving Lock Screen wallpaper, start with a short segment that contains one clear action. Preview the crop carefully so the subject remains visible on a portrait screen.

  • Keep only the motion you want to see.
  • Leave space around important subjects when cropping.
  • Choose a still frame that also looks good without movement.
  • Check the key photo again in the app used for the final save.
  • Verify both Live Photo playback in Photos and wallpaper support on your device.

Saving a playable Live Photo does not guarantee that iOS will accept it as an animated wallpaper. Compatibility depends on the exported asset, your iPhone and your iOS version. This tool does not promise continuous Lock Screen playback.

Video, GIF or Live Photo: choose the right starting point

Use this page when your source is a video and you want to prepare it for Live Photo creation. There is no need to convert the video into a GIF first.

If your source is already an animated GIF, use the GIF to Live Photo tool instead. If you want a GIF for sharing, use the Video to GIF converter.

Already have a Live Photo and want an animated GIF? Use the Live Photo to GIF converter. That is the reverse workflow, not a required step in video-to-Live-Photo creation.
