Key Features of GIF Rotator

Quick rotation presets

Rotate 90° clockwise, 90° counter-clockwise, or 180° with one click. The most common orientation fixes for GIFs that are sideways or upside down.

Fine-angle adjustment

Use the precision slider to rotate by any angle from -45° to +45°. Perfect for straightening a slightly tilted GIF or aligning it to a specific orientation.

All frames preserved

Every frame of your animated GIF is rotated individually — the animation plays correctly with original timing and loop settings intact.

Guides & Tips

How to rotate an animated GIF without losing frames

  • 1. Upload your GIF

Drag and drop your animated GIF. The file loads instantly in your browser — no upload, no wait, your file never leaves your device.

  • 2. Choose a rotation angle

Quick presets: Click 90° clockwise, 90° counter-clockwise, or 180° to apply standard rotations instantly. These cover the most common orientation problems — a landscape GIF that should be portrait, or one that is completely upside down.
Fine slider: Drag the slider to rotate by any angle between -45° and +45°. Use this to correct a slightly tilted GIF or align content to a specific angle. Toggle auto-zoom to fill the canvas when using non-90-degree rotations.

  • 3. Preview in real time

The preview updates instantly as you adjust the angle. Check that all content is correctly oriented before processing.

  • 4. Download

Click Rotate GIF. Every frame is rotated using canvas 2D rendering and re-encoded as an animated GIF. Download instantly. No watermark, no account needed.

After rotating, if the file is too large, run it through our GIF Compressor. Need to resize the output? Use the GIF Resizer.

How GIF rotation works — frame-by-frame processing explained

Unlike static image rotation, rotating an animated GIF requires processing every individual frame. Here is how it works:

  • Decode: The GIF is parsed into its individual frames using GIF decoding libraries. Each frame's pixel data and timing information (delay, disposal method) are extracted.
  • Composite: Each frame is composited onto a full-size canvas using its disposal method — the same way a browser renders the GIF. This ensures frame overlays and transparency are handled correctly.
  • Rotate: The composited frame is drawn onto an output canvas with the rotation transform applied. For 90° increments the rotation is lossless; for fine angles pixels are resampled.
  • Encode: All rotated frames are assembled back into a GIF using the original per-frame delays. The result preserves the original animation speed, loop count, and frame sequence.

Because every frame is processed independently, the animation's rhythm and sync are perfectly preserved — no frames are dropped, merged, or re-timed.
