How to make a meme GIF — classic style vs white box

There are two common ways to caption a GIF, and this tool supports both:

Classic meme style — Impact, white text, black outline

This is the most recognizable meme format online. It uses Impact Bold in white with a thick black outline, usually centered at the top and bottom of the GIF. The top text sets up the joke and the bottom text delivers the punchline.

How to do it: Click the Meme Style preset. Two text layers appear — one at the top and one at the bottom. Type your text into each layer, and the Impact font, white color, and black outline are set automatically.

White box meme format — clean caption style

The white box format places black text inside a white semi-transparent background box, usually at the bottom of the GIF. It works well for subtitles, explanatory captions, and screenshot-style text overlays. The white background makes the text easy to read no matter what is behind it.

How to do it: Click the White Box preset. A single text layer appears at the bottom with the white background box enabled. Type your caption.

Which one should I use?

Choose Meme Style for funny, reaction-style content where the GIF is the punchline. Choose White Box for informative captions, subtitles, or any content where readability is the priority.
