Do you upload or save my photos?

No. The viewer runs entirely in your browser. Your photos are never sent to our servers — all EXIF data is extracted locally using JavaScript.

Can I see where a photo was taken?

Yes. If your photo contains GPS data, the tool extracts the coordinates and displays them on an interactive map. You can see the exact location the photo was taken, down to street level.

Can I check the shutter count of a camera?

Yes, if the camera manufacturer embeds a Shutter Count or Image Number tag in the EXIF data, our tool will display it in the Raw Data view. This works reliably for Nikon, Sony, and Fujifilm; Canon varies by model.

Why doesn't my photo have GPS data?

GPS data is only recorded when location services are enabled on your device at the time of capture. Many apps (Instagram, WhatsApp) also strip GPS when you share photos. Cameras without built-in GPS hardware won't record location at all.

How is this different from ExifTool?

ExifTool is a powerful command-line application that requires installation and technical knowledge. Can EXIF data be faked or edited?

Yes. EXIF metadata can be modified with software — timestamps, GPS coordinates, and camera info can all be altered. Never rely solely on EXIF for legal or forensic purposes without corroborating evidence.

Does this work for video files?

Currently the viewer is optimized for image formats (JPEG, PNG, HEIC, RAW). Video metadata support (MP4, MOV) is on our roadmap.
